Dialogue between illustration and animated movie

The diploma thesis Dialogue between the illustration and the animated film consists of two parts, the theoretical and the practical one. The theoretical part deals with illustrations and with selected illustrators of the 20th-21st century in Bohemia, who worked and created in a short animated movies. The main chapter will be therefore devoted to Jiří Trnka, Adolf Born, Jiří Šalamoun and to Jan Švankmajer. The practical part follows the theoretical one and its goal is the artistic processing of illustrations. They might be used in the preparation of an animated film.

Islamic Culture in European Animated Film

The thesis named Islamic Culture In European Animated Film analyses five selected animated feature films by European filmmakers (Persepolis, Tehran Taboo, The Breadwinner, The Swallows of Kabul and My Sunny Maad) that depict life in Islamic society. The main aim of this thesis is to examine how and through what motifs and forms is Islamic culture presented in the films. The films are analysed both in terms of narrative and stylistic devices (mise-en-scene, camera work, editing, sound). The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to the description of the paradigm of European and Islamic culture and their mutual cultural clashes; one chapter is also dedicated to a brief characterization of animated film and its specifics. This is followed by the methodology, where the basic premises of the analytical part are presented, and the analysis itself, which is supplemented with images from the films for a better understanding of the described phenomena. The last chapter includes an evaluation of the analysis with a summary of the most important findings arising from the analysis.

The Cultural Conditionality of Walt Disney Animation Studios Film Posters

The bachelor's thesis Cultural Conditionality of Walt Disney Animation Stuidos Film Posters uses the method of quantitative content analysis to examine the changes in Disney film posters that occur depending on the target market. The analysis is based on theoretical culture division models and theories, including the dimensional model of Geert Hofstede and the context theory of Edward Hall. Eighteen territorially different national cultures were included in the research. Chosen time range covers poster mutations to seven feature films of the animation studio from year 2014. Monitored differences were the prevalence of individualistic/collectivist appeals, preferences for masculine/feminine portrayal of characters, the frequency of occurance of textual information and the adjustment of the language. The results indicated adjustments to the cultural values within the first monitored area, a significant influence of the main motifs of the films on the total number of characters present in the poster and on the way they are portrayed. The predominance of feminine portrayal was observed in male figures, and feministic in female figures. The occurrence of textual information did not depend on cultural preferences. Animation and Animated Film in Art Education

The thesis deals with the use of animated films in art education. It presents animation as a modern and accessible form of education which stimulates children's creativity, social and communication skills and their ability to teamwork. It describes the positive potential of animation in education as well as some problematic issues and their feasible solutions. The author builds on the best practise of Czech and foreign teachers and practitioners of the education of animation but also on her own experience in the field. The text is supplemented by a blog website that makes the experience accessible to teachers interested in the topic and to the general public. Television production and a preschooler

This bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of television and film production for preschool children. The thesis has got two parts - a theoretical and a practical part. The variety of genres and the history of the television and film production for the youngest viewers are described in that theoretical section where the beginning of the film and the television is briefly explained too. The basic information concerning the film and television theory is also included in this section. In the practical part of the thesis, there is evidence based on a one-month observation of a children's broadcast offer on publicly free TV stations. A questionnaire, which was prepared on this way collected data, is also attached. It is focused on viewer ratings as well as the popularity of programs among children. Thirty preschool children aged 5 to 7 responded to it and the results are carefully analysed in detail. One of the main goals of the thesis is finding out the educational benefits and risk impacts of the most watched programs by preschool children. The next main aim is to find out which programs children prefer to watch and what they like about them.

The artistic personality of Karel Zeman

The diploma thesis named The Artistic personality of Karel Zeman consists of theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part includes basic information about the artist Karel Zeman and his works. It deals with inspirational influences that had impact on his creations and puts them into the international context. It is also focused on finding the effects of Zeman's work at contemporary cultural environment. The practical part of this diploma thesis consists of three methodical papers which are made for selected films of the director Karel Zeman. These papers are in the concertina book's form, they offer some basic information about the selected film. They also comprise creative tasks and writing assignments to think about. Graphical design of methodical papers was created using vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator.
